They mentioned it in context of Win10 1809. Source: more than one library sysadmin offering Win10 Pro and Deep Freeze. If we're talking Win10 feature updates, the known workaround is to completely uninstall Deep Freeze from the client, including the seed, install the Win10 updates, and re-install Deep Freeze. We still have one machine out there still running SteadyState actually, it's an isolated machine that connects directly to some odd hardware and all you can really do is use the machine and dump images to a thumb drive, if it did anything on the internet we probably would have replaced it years ago.Įdit: OP, given your username I thought you might find it interesting that the machine I am talking about above that we still use SteadyState on is connected to a digital microfiche reader.Īre you talking Win10 or Win7 updates? Software updates? Deep Freeze Enterprise, Standard, or Cloud? Is Deep Freeze updated to the latest version? We would look at the options on another computer then navigate with the keyboard on the one we couldn't see everything on and hope we were picking the right options. In particular it would always render the desktop in super oddball resolutions when you were in the unfrozen/configuration mode, to the point where we couldn't see all the options. SteadyState was an interesting experiment from them, it actually worked decently well, but we always had a lot of weird issues in configuring it. Haven't personally played with either function, but it sounds like between Unified Write Filter ( ) and Kiosk Mode( ) you would be able to replicate most of the SteadyState behaviors. I'm just wondering features wise if anyone here has used these programs, and if so, how did they find that they compare to eachother? As we're a library we are on a budget, but we can purchase from TechSoup and I see Reboot Restore Rx Pro is on there so that's a plus. Those two seem like the strongest in terms of features and pricing. I found some older posts, and from those I saw Drive Vaccine (which I guess is now Reboot Restore Rx Pro) and Centurion SmartShield. I was considering moving us to Thin Clients or Mandatory Profiles but they want a program. Management has asked that I find an alternative program. Sadly I need to, and despite my best efforts to ask Deep Freeze for an alternative solution or strategy with Deep Freeze they're coming up short. It took me a while to realize but Deep Freeze was having issues with the updates, I contacted Faronics who told me that the updates were a known issue with the software, and that I shouldn't install them. Recently we ran into issues with Deep Freeze failing to run updates, or in some more extreme cases, blue screens.
